The March/April 2025 issue is here!

"Not all caterpillars will become butterflies. Some are too afraid to go through the metamorphosis, and some are simply quite content to remain caterpillars eating their way through skin changes until a predator finds and eats them.

Like those caterpillars, some people prefer the security of the familiar status quo where there is less chance of getting hurt. They never quite muster the courage to take that scary leap into the world of RV travel because of the possible embarrassment of failure. (How do you know your wings will work?) More important is the cost, both monetary and emotional. (How can you leave family and friends for months at a time?) So they continue living their own version of the caterpillar stage of life."

An RV Closet Conundrum

By Jenell Jones #156312

"A few years ago, if someone had told me I’d own only one bathing suit and wear it
over and over again, I would’ve laughed them off. That would be impossible! After
all, everyone knows a proper summer wardrobe requires an entire arsenal of
swimwear: one for serious swimming, another for poolside lounging when you
don’t plan to get wet, one for when you gain a few pounds, another for when you
shed them and a strapless option to dodge tan lines. Oh, and let’s not forget—on vacation, you need a fresh one for every single day. Right? Well, not anymore."

How many of you have had the same conundrum? How DO you fit an entire wardrobe into a tiny RV closet? Well, you don't have to. Start reading on page 34 to see why Jenell held onto her clothes and what she did about them when she decided to RV full-time.

Games People Play

By Evanne Schmarder, #65409

"The gentle clack of Mahjong tiles mingles with laughter around the game table. We’ve each brought a beverage of choice to enjoy as we scrutinize our hands, plotting our next moves. It’s a Wednesday night, and while my husband Ray has opted for an evening with his latest recording project, I’m immersed in what is quickly becoming a weekly ritual: game night!"

Gaming may not be for everyone, but for many who love strategy and skill, it's the best night of their week. Plus, it's a chance to connect with other humans in person. Begin on page 37 for part one of Evanne's series on games where she covers Backgammon and Mahjong and describes why her game nights are like rituals.

Big Bend Texas

By Emily Fagan #99408

“Big Bend, Texas, is as rugged, wild, and free as the Lone Star State itself, offering adventures that range from heart pounding hikes in pine forest mountains, to scrambles in red rock hoodoos, to quiet beach time on the lazy Rio Grande River, to visiting a charming village across the river in Mexico!”

Starting on page 44, read about what Emily and Mark enjoyed as they worked their way across Big Bend National Park. You'll love the photos!

RV Ferry Travel Made Easy

by Erik Anderson #129446

"Carbon monoxide is a highly toxic gas that can kill at small concentrations of 300 parts per million (ppm) or less."

On page 52, Erik describes a step-by-step process for taking your RV onto a ferry. From fares to precautions, Erik describes it all so you can have a successful ferry ride!

Our magazine team is always open to unique and useful articles from the RVing community!

Although member material is considered first priority, non-member material is also reviewed. Travel/destinations-type articles are kept to a minimum and generally selected only when the location coincides with an Escapees national event. Well researched technical and informational articles are in high demand. Learn more about our submission guidelines and how to share your talent with us below!
