Social distancing recommendations make it tough to do many of the things we usually enjoy during our travels. Don't forget about the many stunning outdoor spaces across the U.S.! Getting outdoors is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while following local guidelines.
Here are several Escapees members hiking in Guadalupe Mountains National Park from our Carlsbad Caverns Clean-Up Hangout in January 2020.

You Always Have A Friend

Whether you're new to RVing or have crisscrossed the continent several times over, there is always something new to learn about life on the road. YouTube videos, blogs, magazines, how-to books, etc. are all great resources to have when you run into a question, but what about those things you don't know that you don't know? That's where your RVing community comes in.

Run into a problem while you're at a park or campground? You likely have a neighbor happy to share their experience in hopes of helping you. If you're out boondocking, you may find a neighbor, or you can turn to your online community for advice. If something arises while you're on the road, there are RV-specific roadside assistance companies you can lean on for immediate help, and your online RVing community will be here ready for you when you have a safe place from which to reach out.

You are never alone in the RVing community (unless you prefer to be, of course). You've always got a friend ready to lend a helping hand!
Online Escapees RV Club Communities

We thoroughly enjoy (and miss!) the face-to-face interactions at in-person events, but thankfully, we still have online spaces in which we can connect with fellow members and chat about all the things related to RVing. Here are a few of the places you can care and share with fellow SKPs!

  • RVNetwork.com This is the open discussion forum for Escapees RV Club. While you don't have to be a club member to join, you'll find there are quite of few here! Like the typical discussion forum, you can access years of insight and input on popular topics as well as create new threads of your own for questions you haven't seen answered.

  • SKPs-Escapees RV Club This Facebook group is only for active club members and is the perfect spot to learn about others' travels, club benefits, upcoming events and activities, and more.

  • Xscapers We also have a Facebook group for our RVers who are traveling while working and/or raising their families. Conversations here tend to focus more on working from the road, RV modifications, remote work opportunities, outdoor adventures, and other similar topics.

  • RVillage This RV-specific website welcomes RVers of all kinds from all places. You'll find plenty of your fellow SKPs as well as many other RVers to get to know. It's a great place for troubleshooting questions, destination recommendations, and more.

  • Don't forget about our Birds-of-a-Feather groups! If you belong to one, or many, of the Escapees BOF groups, there may be a Facebook or RVillage group for you, too! (Note: You'll have to log in to member.escapees.com to access the BOF link above.)
Advice for New RVers
With so many new RVers hitting the road this summer, we've seen lots of questions centered around what mistakes not to make.

Last week, we shared this HuffPost article (7 Major Mistakes People Make When Choosing an RV) with members of our Facebook groups and asked "What mistakes would you add to this list?" Here's what you suggested:

"Find a quality manufacturer first. Then look at floor plans and models. My reference and that of many older full-timers is RV.org." -Georgia D.G.

"Compare storage capacity and tank capacity. The same length unit, with the same engine may have completely different storage and tank sizes." Kathleen S.

"Depreciation is the #1 decision point in buying an RV. To us, that's a huge mistake." Paul M.

"Making sure the bed can be made easily." Annie O.

"Comfortable furniture. Sit on it like you would to relax or watch TV. We had a quality MH but very uncomfortable seating." Sue P.

"One of the things I always recommend to RV buyers it to video their walk-through. That way the will have a reference to go back to as they will probably not remember all that is told to them." -Chick T.
Helpful Blog Posts

In case you didn't know, Escapees.com hosts a blog that features articles from a variety of RVers and RV experts. One of the frequent topics there is RV life, focusing on the fun and not-so-fun experiences of RVing. Click either of the links above to find dozens of articles for you to browse to get ideas for your own adventures!

Tips for Remote-Working RVers

Like Escapees.com, our Xscapers website also hosts a blog filled with articles submitted by our RVing community. A shared experience among most Xscapers is that they are working from the road, earning an income as they travel. With this in mind, there is an entire section of articles dedicated to helping with this! Click above to check them out.
