Giving is Better than Receiving

"Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have." This quote, attributed to Jim Rohn, embodies the Escapees spirit in so many ways. During a time when it's easy to think about tangible gifts wrapped in pretty paper (or Amazon boxes!), we want to take a moment to focus instead on the many ways you, Escapees members, have given of yourselves in the interest of helping others.
Escapees Members Give All Year
Every year, at nearly every opportunity, Escapees members find ways to give back to the community. Sometimes it happens through raising funds for C.A.R.E., and at other times, it's through a more hands-on approach such as litter pickup, acts of service, or volunteering with a nearby non-profit.

Back in May we launched the Peterson Spirit Award. This program gives members another way to recognize those who exhibit the core values of our club, caring and sharing. Members honored this year include:

- Dave McKenna for offering his time and RV to help a fellow member pick up their RV

- Gretchen Mattison for her many ways of giving back to the Escapees community through fundraising and volunteerism

- Charles Zinna for coming to the rescue of a Jojoba Hills neighbor, flying to Washington and helping her get her RV back to southern California

- Matthew and Kayla Kvacik for their quick action in towing a fellow RVer out of a tough spot, setting an example for their little Escapee in the process

- Don Gabler for traveling to Oregon to help an injured member get her RV back to Arizona

- Daniel Heming for his many acts of kindness, including installing solar panels on a fellow member's RV, troubleshooting others' RV problems, and offering a tow when necessary

Though these members have been formally recognized, we know there are many, many more of you who have done your part in a variety of ways. We've seen photos from impromptu litter clean-ups all over the country, organized by members who saw a need and wanted to resolve it. We watched as Xscapers came together to help build a Habitat for Humanity home earlier this year. There are food drives throughout the country to help local food banks, and crafters coming together to knit caps or quilt blankets to donate to local nursing homes and hospitals. Some of you are even trained in emergency response, and have rushed to areas in need to support local law enforcement and first responders as they help a community recover from tragedy.

Escapees members have also come together throughout the year to raise funds for C.A.R.E., a non-profit organization dedicated to helping RVers who can no longer travel. At Escapade earlier this year, attendees raised more than $6500 through donut sales, the chili-cookoff, and monetary donations. On top of that, you all have raised funds at chapter and BOF gatherings, Convergences, Hangouts, at the Annual Bash, and more, totaling tens of thousands of dollars in much-needed (and appreciated) donations.

Thank you all for everything you do to make RVing more welcoming and more accessible for all! We are grateful for how much you give of yourselves to help others ❤️

Finding Great Boondocking Spots

Boondocking is camping at a site that has zero hookups. No water. No power. No sewer. And more often than not in an uncrowded spot on public land. Though this isn't everyone's preference, for those who enjoy getting off the beaten path, the opportunities are endless! Take a look to learn Marshall's advice for finding the best spots.
Escapees Staff Donate to Toys for Tots
Throughout the year, Escapees RV Club staff contribute to an employee fund with every paycheck. This fund is typically used to purchase gifts for families in need.

This year, Escapees staff contributed approximately $1200 to this fund, which was used to contribute gifts to Toys for Tots and other programs in Polk County.
